Mandy Flores + Muscles Like Mandy

Mandy Flores + Muscles Like Mandy

Hi everyone! We are back with another Crossfit FEATURE! I would like to Introduce Mandy Flores! Simply STUNNING! Am I right?! I met Mandy a few years back, we are both members at Elite Crossfit . We don’t actually workout at the same gym though. Mandy workouts out at the Selma location, and I workout at the best location RIDE OR DIE REDLINE! I’m kidding….am I? LOL! We have a little back and fourth competition, but its all love. Mandy is super quiet. So it took me a a good year to actually talk to her. She is the sweetest person when you get to know her. IMG_8733

Mandy is married, and the day that she married her husband Manny was the best day of her life! She had an amazing wedding thanks to their generous parents, and it was a day her and her husband will never forget. Her faith is very important to her, and something she takes seriously holds close to her heart.IMG_8763
Mandy has been involved in Crossfit for about 4 1/2 years, and has competed in a variety of competitions. Her motivation for joining Crossfit initially was weight loss, and is still part of her motivation. Mandy likes seeing how far she can continue to grow, and do things she never thought were physically possible. She is lifting weight she never thought she could or would ever do. IMG_8740
The gym is second nature to Mandy, and she is transitioning into the personal training arena. I mean, who wouldn’t want her as a personal trainer?! Mandy aspires to be a personal trainer because she wants to help people reach their goals. I wouldn’t have met any of my weight loss goals without personal trainers or Crossfit. I wasn’t capable of meeting my goals on my own.

Personal training isn’t always about losing weight, but whatever that goal may be, Mandy wants to help people achieve their goals! Mandy was overweight in the past, and has completely transformed her body. SHE knows the STRUGGLE! IMG_8749

Mandy continues to grow, train, gain strength, and learn different aspects of fitness everyday!  Be sure to follow Mandy on Instagram so you are the first to know when she starts accepting CLIENTS!!!!

Hey, ya’ll hey!

So, we are back with a feature with not only a Coach, but a competitive CrossFit Athlete!  My mind is always working, and thinking of the right people to feature in general! I knew Chely Galvan would be perfect! Not only is she a beauty, but she is STRENGTH defined! CrossFit is a large community, and I want to open this section up to include EVERYONE, from every BOX!

So, you know I always have a story about my features right? My first encounter with Chely was during a Sunday CrossFit class. I was new to CrossFit, and back then no one really worked out on a Sunday. Except ME! Smart right? Dumb! The WOD had rope climbs, and I didn’t know how to rope climb yet. I figured she would find something else for me to do…NOPE! First she showed me her way, easy right?! FAIL! So, she say’s “just keeping trying” you’ll eventually get it sometime during the 20 minutes. WTF! LOL! GUESS WHAT? I did, eventually get an half ass rope climb. Crazy right? Sometimes, the best way to learn is to actually do it, and practice it!

Chely Galvan=Competitive Athlete+Coach+Crossfit Mettle+Lion Life

The top athletes and teams, based on their performance in their region advance to regionals, Chely has advanced to regionals multiple times. The woman is talented!  Being a competitive athlete is one thing, but helping others better their lives is another. Chely coaches because its rewarding to see people make life changing behaviors that contribute to their overall health. Being a competitive athlete takes TONS of discipline, and consistent training. I don’t think people understand the amount of work it takes to compete at her level! It’s extremely inspirational! Chely feels that it’s always fun competing, and striving to be better, stronger and faster. But, the true reward and joy is seeing people in her Crossfit community make life altering health changes. Being able to have that sort of an impact on people is invaluable!

I really don’t know where to begin my story about Leilani. Leilani is a what I call a DAY ONE STAY ONE! We met over 3 years ago, maybe more. Most likely around the same time I started at Elite Crossfit. I am about 100% sure that Leilani doesn’t know, (now she will) that I have pronounced her name wrong for a good two years! LOL! If you go to Elite Crossfit, don’t act like you have said her name correctly the entire time…yes, I am giving you the side eye. Nothing, but love for you Leilani! Leilani serves in a wide array of roles in life, I only listed a few.

Leilani is a Coach, and a Personal Trainer at Elite Crossfit. She loves her profession, and loves helping people! People go to sleep, and wake up healthier day after day due to her influence. How many people can say that they have a role in life, not a job, but a profession that allows them to help people live a healthier fulfilling life? Leilani’s role as a coach helps her help people get stronger, lose weight, be faster, or just to be all around LEGIT!

Leilani Garrett = 's Wife+Mother+Coach+Life Changer I decided to reach out to Leilani because I love her Instagram, and I am a fan. Yes, a fan! She is extremely motivating. I’m also jealous of her hair! Just thought I would throw that out there…..LOL! The other day while scrolling on insta, the photo below of a screen shot was in my insta feed. One of Leilani’s clients sent her this message. This message hit home, because I know the struggle. Simply AMAZING, and life changing! Leilani + Life Changer

During the Crossfit open her team motivation really shinned through. Week after week I watched her, and her team get extra creative, and most importantly have fun. Her honesty about life happening on the weekends, shows that she is human. REALNESS! I love it!

Leilani Garrett = 's Wife+Mother+Coach+Life Changer

Leilani Coaches at Elite Crossfit from 9:00am-1:00pm, but also offers personal training! If you have questions about Crossfit, or personal training reach out to her. Elite has two locations. Weekly Workout + HIIT

Good Morning!

Congrats completing the Open! There were some crazy workouts this year! Kudo’s to everyone who gave it everything! I know a lot of those workouts were brutal!

I really wish I could have finished the open workouts, but emergency surgery put a damper in my plans. That goes to show, that our lives can change in a snap. A part of me is still kind of angry at the entire situation surrounding having emergency surgery, but I guess everything happens for a reason. All we can do is work hard to recover from any situation put in our path, and move forward from it!

I am no where near fully recovered. I feel like I have smoked cigarettes for my entire life. Not, like I have ever smoked, but it’ hard for me to catch my breath. I have been taking things really, really easy. Despite what many people think, or feel, I think sitting still, and doing nothing is the worst thing that I could do for my body. Sitting around, and being miss poor me isn’t going to make me heal faster, or make me feel better. I do what I can, and when I can’t do something, I don’t. My diet is extremely clean. Which is important to not gain weight. I am not exercising very much at all. I am doing what I can, which is hard for me. I have been known to push past pain, and that’s not a good thing to do.

Doctor’s are not always the best people in the field to give a comprehensive rehabilitation plan. They usually say, don’t lift over this amount! And that’s pretty much it. Okay…so what are my other limitations? They hardly ever explain, and we end up just starting at one another. Yes, I am judging them as I stare! LOL!

I’m not being rude, but a vast amount of healthcare providers at the VA are overweight, or smoke. Since I am a Veteran I receive all of my care at the VA. The VA isn’t a bad place, but it isn’t the best place either. More than a few providers, need to walk the talk. You guys know me, and I’m keeping it real.

N-E-Way…….The workout @Elite Crossfit North is…….Drum Roll, because this could be the death of me, kidding! No but seriously, I literally have to scale every aspect of this workout (crying emoji here)! And there is nothing wrong with doing so! If you have ever wanted to try CF you really should.

Life AsRx + WristWrap Review

Life AsRx-WristWrap-Review

Good Morning!

“It’s always safer when you wrap it. ASRX wristwraps are built to handle the toughest CrossFit WOD and are made in the USA.”

I hope everyone is doing well! How is the Crossfit Open going for everyone? Hopefully great! I had the opportunity to collaborate with Life AsRx on a few things, and I’m excited to give you my review on their wristwraps!

So, when I started CF I knew nothing! I mean nada! I was living in a world of one pair of running shoes, and no gym bag. Sooo, one day I sign up for a noon CF class, and see that almost everyone has a gym bag, lifting shoes, wrist wraps, weightlifting belts, speed ropes etc, and what did I have? I had my car keys, and a bottle of water…. LOL! Who am I kidding, I still show up like that sometimes! LOL! After a few months of CF I understood how different support gear offered support to different movements.

I knew AsRx wristwraps would be the perfect item to review, and to give some understanding to the purpose of this specific piece of support gear. The purpose of wristwraps are to  provide support to the wrist during heavy movements, especially heavy overhead movements. Our wrist can be put under a ton of tension with heavy loads.

I like that AsRx wristwraps are long in length, making their product suitable for people of all body types (we are all at different places in our fitness journey’s). The wristwraps are cotton, and wrap all the way around the wrist, and are secured by a black 1/2 inch string tie. I felt like the fit was amazing! Very snug, and not irritating at all, loved the color! If only they had a PINK color! I have a velcro pair, and those don’t work for me, I am in for the win with AsRX wristwraps!

Happy Monday! OMG! A review of my top from ASRX isn’t even necessary! COMPLETELY gave me my ENTIRE life! I love all clothing, to include what people are now calling athleisure! What the heck is athleisure you ask? Well, it’s a trend in which peeps are wearing athletic apparel that can take them from the street, to the gym, or reverse. I’m really not sure what they are talking about, I have been wearing workout clothing as regular clothes for my entire adult LIFE! LOL!

No, but in all light seriousness, I hear my friends say that all they own are workout clothes. All it takes is a little imagination to turn your workout clothing into multi-purpose outfits! I can take one top and make 3-5 looks. This particular top doesn’t feel heavy, it’s pretty light and soft. I would feel comfortable wearing it to the gym, and taking it off after warming up. I love the versatility of this piece! You can easily wear it as a casual piece, or dress it up! Pop over to my lifestyle section to see how I dressed it up with more heels! eeekkkkkkk!

You can find this top here! Be sure to be on the look out for other review’s on products from ASRX coming to the BLOG!!!

As always your readership means the WORLD to me! Drop me a line if you have something you would like to know about or read about!

Much Love!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend This lovely article will also be posted in the motivational Monday section! It’s 1000% motivational! ! I’m continuing on with Crossfit and Women this week. I feel like so many women are scared of Crossfit due to certain stigma’s, and mainstream medias definition of the perfect body! There is no such thing as the perfect body! This beautiful person is my friend Ali McCully! Amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter, friend and athlete! You guys! Ali is so inspirational, and I wanted to share a little of her story. Ali, and her husband Richard are determined to help 300 people achieve their health, and wellness goal this YEAR! I don’t talk much about supplements on Lesley and Eve, but I do have a routine of supplements. My go to is Advocare! I want to steer you all in Ali, and Richards direction when it comes to supplementation. I am super protective of all of my readers, but I know I’m steering you in the right direction. I feel that it takes more than me to reach all of you! Ali-Maculey-Crossfit-Women-Pregnancy-ADVOCARE

Ali maintained her fitness regime throughout her entire pregnancy! Which is no small feat! She looked amazing, and still does. I know how difficult picking the right supplements can be, especially for women! Ugh! There are so many choices out there…it’s so crazy! Think about some of your goals, and then take a look at Ali’s AdvoCare page! If you have any questions comment below, or contact her via her AdvoCare page, or through our contact page! We will try our best to respond within 24 hours or less! I love all AdvoCare products! Seriously I do! AdvoCare has supplements to help everyone, no matter what stage you are at in your journey. Ali also has amazing workouts on her Instagram( click here), and Pinterest, so be sure to follow her. Crossfit isn’t the only type of workout Ali follows, so be sure to check her out on ALL of her social media channels for motivation! I know she is going to start a Youtube channel as well! #excited!

Ali is extremely knowledgeable, and her guidance won’t have you starving. She understands the importance of eating well, and taking the appropriate amount of time to rest! Exercising everyday with no rest isn’t good for your body! Ali-Maculey-Crossfit-Women-Pregnancy-ADVOCARE                                                                           Ali-Maculey-Crossfit-Women-Pregnancy-ADVOCARE
Ali-Maculey-Crossfit-Women-Pregnancy-ADVOCARESeriously the most ADORABLE baby GIRL!!!!! Ali, and Richards baby girl seriously LOVE’s the gym! I love seeing her gorgeous blue eyes, and big smiles! No doubt makes my DAY! I asked Ali what motivates her, and she said being healthy for her family is her motivation. And that is the best motivation you guys! Having a healthy lifestyle helps us mentally, and physically. Seeing, and knowing Ali before and after her baby, shows that it is possible to be active, and keep moving through your pregnancy. Always consult your physician before starting any workout regime, but being pregnant doesn’t mean your dead, and need to sit in a corner. I did, I sat in a corner, and ate my my entire kitchen, and I have ZERO photo’s of myself during that time. LOL!

Did you workout during your pregnancy?

Well I registered for the open last week! I usually wait until the first workout comes out to register, but I couldn’t do that this year…LOL! I’m really excited! But more excited that we are split into teams within the box in which I am member. A little in house competition never hurt anyone! If you haven’t registered, Why not?

Last week I received a few emails about Crossfit, and reason’s why its not for you. In every email someone stated that Crossfit was dangerous. I wouldn’t promote anything that is dangerous. Every movement in Crossfit can be scaled to a level that is doable for YOU! There are still a ton of movements that I cannot do, so I scale. Does this mean you are not getting the same level of a workout? No, doesn’t  mean that at all! We all progress differently, and have to work at a level that is suitable for our body!

Anyway! I thought I would share a few photo’s of women I Crossfit with! We are all at different stages, but we have a blast! Mega our featured image is a trooper and makes it through workouts at a pace that workout for her, baby and her body! When people ask me about Crossfit, I automatically think of pain! JOKING! I think of how fun it is to workout with such a diverse group of women beautiful fun women!

Good Morning!

Have you registered for the Reebok Crossfit Open yet? I know the decision can be difficult for many people! The number one reasoning I hear people say is “it’s not like I’m going to win”. LOL! It’s not like I’m going to win either, but I’m still going to register. Take a positive approach, and set a realistic goal that works for you!

I have worked extremely hard since the last open, well maybe not extremely…LOL, joking!  I feel that I am more developed in certain areas. Last year, I couldn’t string together any Toes-to-bar. I still pretend like I can’t sometimes 😉 … But I can now effectively string together 7, or more.

My mental approach to workouts are also different. I don’t approach a workout without some sort of plan, and I’m not starting off balls to the wall. In my few years of Crossfit, I know that the balls to the wall approach is not effective. I’m doing the open to see my progress, and to also support my friends who have also progressed. We are also going to be on different teams within the box I attend, (Elite Crossfit) and of COURSE I want to be on a winning team!   I mean, lets be honest…everyone likes to win!!! Everything about the Reebok Crossfit Open is positive, and you can only gain from the experience!

Alright! Yesterday was a holiday, and the workout wasn’t too bad! Back squats, and then a 9 minute AMRAP.

Elite Crossfit

MONDAY 2/15/16

A) back squat 3, 2, 1; rest 3′ between sets
B) 9min amrap
20 BB front rack lunges in place 115/75 (I did #55, I should have went up to atleast #65)
15 HSPU (I scaled to the box)
10 PS 115/75 (same #55, used the same bar)

Weekly Workout

Thanks for your readership, and the love YESTERDAY! ARE you REGISTERING for the Reebok Crossfit Open 2016?? I’m going to bug you to death until you do! If you Crossfit you really should! I wasn’t going to register, but then I was reminded that I have a blog, that needs content! LOL! Joking……but not really. My Coach really dropped that line on me….LOL!  No, but for keeps, I’m doing the open scaled to see where I am at as an athlete. I will post every workout, and my results! I will talk more about the open in upcoming blog post!

So far I feel like my workout week hasn’t been too bad. I felt kinda tired on Tuesday, which was odd. Anyway, yesterday’s workout wasn’t too bad…It was a partner workout. I will get to that in a bit.

I mentioned in my previous post that I workout at Elite Crossfit, the Redline location. Elite has two locations, one on the North side of San Antonio, and a second location in Selma. I actually live less than 5 minutes from the Selma location, but go to the Redline location. The programming is the same, but I started at the Redline location. I feel most comfortable there. I workout on the same platform, use the same pull-up bar, and wall ball during workouts. I like the GREEN wall ball , #14 pounds…none of this #15 pound wall ball madness. I know, its weird.

I consider myself to be a C level Crossfit athlete. I still struggle with a handful of Crossfit skills. The struggle is my fault, I need to put forth the work to improve. Crossfit skills are all about taking the time to improve, and practice. If you’re not willing to put forth the time, and effort you won’t get better.

Alright! On to yesterday’s workout! Yesterday’s workout was a partner “WOD”. There were 3 of us, so one person had to work alone. She did awesome! Her personality is so positive! Love it!  I was so happy our Coach let me work with my usual partner! I felt like this workout was a breath of fresh air kind of workout. I’m not sure about the workout for today, I was kinda scared to look!

Yesterday’s “WOD”

Elite Crossfit – Wednesday  2/10/16

A. 15′ AMRAP in pairs alternating
10 KB ground to shoulder each (We used a #35 pound Kettle Bell)
10 Box Jumps each (Jumped using a 20 inch box)
100′ farmer walk each (Used #53 KB…one in each hand)
10 KB lunges in place each
Rest 10′
B. With same partner 4′ max calories rower. Switch as needed (My partner did 2 minutes, and I did 2 minutes)! Not too bad at all!
