Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Cookie (Vegan)Lenny and Larry's

Sooooo, I’m sure you may have heard all of the rave about the Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie! Or maybe you haven’t. I have tried all of them, but I am only reviewing the Birthday Cake flavor today. The products claim to fame is that it’s Vegan (No Eggs, No Dairy, No Soy, No GMO).

I was able to found a good supply of this flavor at the Vitamin Shoppe. This flavor seems to be sold out at GNC, and our local grocery store (HEB). I also found large varieties on Amazon.com.

When you open the product, it does actually look like the packaging. It did taste like a birthday cake-ish flavor. The consistency was cake like, and it didn’t taste too chalky as I expected it too. It did have a sweet flavor like a real cookie. This particular flavor is one of my fav’s of the entire selection of Lenny & Larry’s The Complete Cookie. I usually cut this product in half and eat half of it, and save the other half for the next day.

Con’s- This product is TWO servings! I don’t like the fact that this cookie is two servings.

Nutritional Breakdown- 180 Cal, 4g Fat, 27g Carbs, 8g Protein (FOR HALF the COOKIE)

My only con was that the Complete Cookie is two servings. I feel like 360 calories in one go is a lot for me, but it may not be for others. The taste and consistency were great. It could serve as a great meal replacement for some. I don’t think that you would be disappointed in this product.

Protein Bar Review (Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar)

Protein Bar Review

Protein Bar’s are ALWAYS HIT or MISS! As soon as I take the first bite I prepare to be disappointed. Isn’t that sad? I think it’s because I have had so many protein bar’s that have been down right DISGUSTING! People always say, “it’s good” , when you ask them how the bar actually taste. I ALWAYS reply back and ask…NO, SERIOUSLY what does it really taste like? I have been on a quest to find high protein bars and snacks that really taste like the description. Most of the products are not super “clean” nor “paleo” or primal. That’s just life people. Most of the items are highly processed. It’s give and take.  If your body doesn’t allow you to have any of the products I review, don’t eat them, K? Okay.

This week I am reviewing the Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar (Salted Carmel Brownie)

So this bar was recommended to me, and the person PROMISED it would be good! The Zone bar is not sold separtely, and is sold in a box of five for $4.87 at H-E-B, and $4.47 at Wal-Mart. My expectation of the bar was for it to be extremely crisp and sturdy like most protein bars. This bar was soft, like a brownie. This bar tasted EXACTLY like a BROWNIE! If you are not a big fan of chocolate you will not like this bar. It was soft, and the salted and drizzled chocolate on top provided a slight crunch.

Nutritional Break Down

200 Calories, 9g Fat, 19g Carbs, 11g Protein 14g, Sugar

If I am watching my carb intake I wouldn’t eat this protein bar. My daily limit for carbs would be a little less than 40g of carbs for the day. This bar would take half of my carbs! Holy moly! This bar would be more of a treat of a dessert.  If I was ever in a pinch, I would eat this bar in a second! My son love them, and it’s a better choice for him. I am always going to be honest about a product that I review. The taste is amazing, one of the BEST protein bars I have ever eaten…HANDS DOWN!

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a fabulous day! I wanted to take some time, and write about my make-up routine, and some of the products I swear by, and love! You can find my Accutane and Adult Acne issues in my wellness section. For people who are new to my blog, I have suffered from acne for literally my entire life!

Anyway, I have worn make-up since I was in high school. Now, I cannot be responsible for how my make-up was applied when I was in high school! I’m sure it was a hot mess!

I have a few cleansers that I love, I swear by this one, and this one! I like my face to be clean with no trace of residue. I always use a Clarisonic Mia 2, to wash my face, but I have also used this model and it works just as great. The one speed Clarisonic is also AMAZE!

After cleansing my face, I immediately apply this Kiehl’s Pore Refining Toner and this moisturizer!  My skin is cray! Sometimes it can be really oily or  really dry. If my face is drier than normal I use Cetaphil . Cetaphil is AMAZING, and for a moisturizer it’s seriously a BANG for your BUCK!

After a cleansing, toning and moisturizing I start my make-up routine! I ALWAYS apply a primer! I specifically look for a primer with an SPF. I don’t like applying sunscreen on top of my moisturizer, it feels super heavy. I use Mac’s Prep+Prime Facial Protectant, I love it! I wait a few minutes before applying under eye primer! This is so important! Under eye primer will help with any puffiness, and prevent creasing, and dryness under your eyes! I use Smashbox Photo finish hydrating under eye primer, you only need a tiny amount! Especially for the price!

I ALWAYS let my primer sit for about 2-3 minutes, and then apply this foundation, using this brush from E.L.F! YOU GUYS, this brush gives my face LIFE, and it’s only $6.00! I use 3-4 pumps, and that’s enough for medium coverage. For full coverage, I use about 4 1/2 pumps! I usually apply full coverage if I am going out at night. I do use more than one brand of foundation, and mix foundations regularly!  We will get into why on another post!

After foundation, depending on what’s going on, I may contour my face. If I am being a complete lazy human, I will only contour along my hair line, jaw bone, and chin. I usually use a bronzer to add definition to my cheeks, and the tip of my nose. I use this contour palate the most, and this bronzer by Bobbi Brown. I like the this particular bronzer because its flat, with no shimmer.

I ALWAYS, apply HIGHLIGHT! Why? Because NO one can ever have too much HIGHLIGHT! I literally have too many highlights to count! I am currently using That Glow Kit by Anastasia Beverly Hills like nobody’s business! It’s worth the $$$!!!! Lately I have used That Glow Kit as a highlighter, and blush. But, my favorite blush is Mac’s Peaches!

I usually use my contour palate as eye shadow! LOL! I like my eye shadow to be subtle and not too bold. It’s a personal preference. I take a simple step when it comes to my brows as well, I use Benefit’s Best of Brow, and Lash Kit. I outline my brows and then fill them in with Benefit’s gimmie brow!

Okay, I cannot stand eyeliner that doesn’t stay in place! If you are ever around me and your eyeliner is bleeding….not to worry I will tell you! LOL! I love Mac’s Feline, but it’s sold out almost all the time! But, seriously try this eyeliner on your waterline….you will never go back! I don’t apply false lashes. I can get gorgeous lashes using, this eyelash primer and Two Faced Better Than Sex mascara.  I apply my eye make-up last…don’t ask me why? I always have. Although, I have seen many youtube glam artist apply their eye make-up before their foundation! It makes perfect since! Applying eye make-up first allows you to use your foundation to cover any boo boo’s.

The last step in my routine is to apply a dust of Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder, apply one of my favorite lip color’s I’m loving, this one and these from NYX!

Anddddd….that’s it! My everyday go to glam! It take me about 15 minutes. If I am doing a full contoured face, it take 30-45 minutes! Blending takes FOREVER!!!

Today I’m mixing topics! I am adding the last look to three ways to maximizing your wardrobe, and an open letter to a special person I met yesterday. Instead of my photo’s being first, they will appear at bottom of my blog post!

I mixing topics because I came extremely close to not publishing the photo’s for my look without a jacket. I had a moment of clarity that put a lot of my insecurities in perspective. I can only hope that the young lady who helped me, but didn’t know it, is reading this post.

Yesterday, I ran into Dillard’s to get a sensor removed that was accidentally left on at the time of my purchase. On my way out, I decided to browse a little, I always do. I’m not sure why I’m making it seem like this is out of my norm..LOL! A very beautiful young lady in the junior’s department was extremely kind and just overall cheery. Is that even a word? We started with small talk, and a little bit of random chit chat. I walked over to the 3 way mirror to try on a few jackets I grabbed…yes, I’m that person who stands outside of the dressing room trying on clothing…don’t you just love me!

Anyway, I removed my runners jacket to try on a blazer, my new friend looked at me and said “you have a lot of muscles”. I said I have a few, and quickly put my jacket back on. Her perception of my muscles suggested that I’m fit, and workout. Never in a million years would she, or anyone guess that my arms are my biggest insecurity. My arm’s, and traps are the biggest they have ever been in my life. It doesn’t matter if I lift light ,or heavy, they maintain a muscular appearance. I can’t explain it, I do the same workouts as others.

My new friend began to tell me how she started a new workout regime, she was excited to talk about it, and I was happy to share this moment with her. As I browsed around the store a little more she asked me a few more questions. I could tell she wanted to ask me more, but was hesitant. I found a few items, like ALWAYS, and was ready to check out. After I paid, she asked, “how long did it take for you to look like you do”? In my heart, and in that moment,  I knew she needed a light at the end of the tunnel. My appearance was a concern in my journey, but not my goal, my goal was overall wellness. I wanted to be fit, healthy, happy, and live without thousands of restrictions. Balance is what helped me arrive at the place I am today. Not shakes, not green juice, and not low carb diets. BALANCE!

I seem to always be in a hurry, all the time. But, I stopped, and knew I needed to be still. I listened to her without interrupting. Yes, just listened. I listened to her talk about food being the hardest part. I listened to her talk about being hungry, a feeling I knew all too well. It was important to me to share I too endure similar struggles.

Our external features don’t show what we battle internally, our insecurities. Her struggle and success put things in perspective for me. Her struggles are current and real! My muscular arm’s aren’t causing me any harm, and so petty in my moment of clarity. I’m far from perfect, I’m human, I make mistakes, and I am not without flaws.

I won’t say her name within this post, but please know that I heard you today! Your kindness is overwhelmingly AMAZING, and you are beautiful in a million ways!  I know you will be successful in your journey! Please know that you helped me more today more than I could have ever helped you.

Stay Strong, Stay Consistent!

Currently, Fashion Trends, and Holiday Weight Gain

Happy Monday!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Today I’m discussing a few current events, fashion trends, and holiday weight gain!

We have experienced a ton of rain in the Schertz/SA area! Many areas being flooded. Flooding in general is a touchy subject. It’s touchy because some people don’t have flood insurance coverage.  I slightly remember my insurance agent quickly skimming over that endorsement, and informing me of the higher price tag other than the actual coverage. The cost can be extremely pricey.  Having piece of mind may be worth the price tag.

We are finally experiencing cooler weather in Texas, with cooler weather often means dry skin. On Saturday my skin was so dry that it was peeling. It’s funny because, I had no idea I was peeling like a snake….and no one told me. LOL!  People often feel that saying something is mean or taboo. I would have said, girl whats up with your face, you’re peeling bad. That’s just me though! It wasn’t until I peeped in the mirror and noticed. The wind along with the cold wasn’t agreeing with my skin.

Immediately upon returning home, I washed my face with Kiehl’s Raw Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser. Having a quality cleanser is paramount. Don’t skimp out of your skin care routine. I have found that this cleanser works well while on Accutane.  After cleansing my face, I moisturized with Cetaphil moisturizer. This moisturizer is fairly inexpensive compared to other brands, and delivers immediate results. Only apply a small amount!

I am super strict about skincare. I wear sunscreen EVERYDAY (Clarins) with or without make-up. I don’t have any signs of aging on my face…(my opinion) 🙂

If you’re not taking the necessary steps to take care of your skin, it will SHOW! Never go to bed with an unclean face, and never ever ever sleep in your make-up. I wash my face, apply a moisturizer, and then apply Retin-A Micro on top. Retin-A is no doubt the best kept secret! It’s a topical form of vitamin A, and it helps with sun spots, scars and fine lines and wrinkles.

What’s trending!

Lately I have noticed a ton of people blogging, or wearing over the knee boots. Myself included! Find a pair that you like, and wait for it to go on sale at Macy’s. Don’t pay full price!  Pick a pair that you can use for years to come. I am not a fan of shoes with patterns. This includes animal print. Animal prints look amazing on some people, but not this gal!  Most of my shoes are nude, grey, black or brown. I have found extreme success with Steve Madden shoes. With proper storage, you can have shoes for years!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Steve Madden Gorgeous

Steve Madden Orabela

Ivanka Trump Sarena

Vince Camuto Booties

Don’t pay 25-50 dollars for a scarf! Unless you really love it! I found this dupe, (click here) on Amazon for $8-9 dollars. I have amazon prime so I didn’t have to pay for shipping. I received it in a week!

Holiday’s and Weight gain

The holidays are upon us! Have a plan to succeed in place. Don’t wait until January to start weight-loss, and fitness goals! Start today! I see tons of food posts on Instagram/FB, and it will only get more tempting as the holidays approach.

My goal for the holiday season is to not gain any weight! Not even 1 pound. My mind is ready, set, and go to accomplish this mission. What will be your plan? Post your plan for the upcoming holiday season in the comment section!

My Mother and Breast Cancer

My Mother and Breast Cancer

I hope everyone is having an awesome week!

As some, but not all of us know, the month of October is breast cancer awareness month. October was like any other month in the past, until my mother was diagnosed. You see, my mom is a good keeper of secrets. Especially if she thinks the secret will cause anyone, or me worry and anxiety.

Performing her monthly breast exam per usual, my mother discovered a painful lump on one of her breast. After discovering the lump, she contacted her primary care provider to have a mammogram scheduled. After the mammogram, she had the lump biopsied.

In a time of information overload, and fear, she cared more about others than she cared about herself. My mom called me on the telephone to tell me that she had a biopsy of a lump on one of her breast, and that it was cancerous. I was instantly terrified! I asked my mom, WHEN did all of this happen? I could tell that she trying to be brave for me, but I was trying to be brave for her in the same breath. Why my mom? Even though cancer isn’t an actual being, I was ANGRY at cancer. Never in a million years did I think cancer would hit this close to home.

My mom was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. A diagnosis of triple negative breast cancer means that the three most common types of receptors known to fuel most breast cancer growth–estrogen, progesterone, and the HER-2/neu gene are not present in the cancer tumor. Triple negative breast cancer occurs in about 10-20% of diagnosed breast cancers and is more likely to affect younger people, African Americans, Hispanics, and/or those with a BRCA1 gene mutation. Triple negative breast cancer can be more aggressive, and difficult to treat.  Also, the cancer is more likely to spread and recur.

I was prepared to travel this journey with my mother, and be her strength. My mom is a quiet person. Most people say they can’t read my mother, and it’s true. But, to know her is to love her. Battling cancer is a long journey. My mom went through surgery to remove the cancer, and insertion of a port for chemotherapy, chemotherapy, and then reconstructive surgery.

During this journey, there are a ton of decisions that have to be made. The first thing of concern is removing the cancer. Surgeons rarely know how much surrounding tissue is cancerous until they actually perform the surgery. My mother knew that she was going to have the affected breast removed, but was unsure if she should have the other breast removed as well? Most people think this is an easy decision, but it’s not. Having a double mastectomy does not guarantee that the cancer won’t return. But for peace of mind of cancer possibly not returning to the other breast, my mom decided to have both breast removed.

After removal of the cancer, and both breast, the real journey begins in my opinion. Chemotherapy! Chemotherapy is treatment with cancer-killing drugs that may be given intravenously (or by mouth). The drugs travel through the bloodstream to reach cancer cells in most parts of the body. Chemo is given in cycles, with each period of treatment followed by a recovery period. Treatment usually lasts for several months.

My mother was fortunate enough to be guided into the directions of Dr. Sherronda Henderson. Dr. Henderson is board certified in Internal Medicine, and Oncology. I think Dr. Henderson has one of the hardest jobs in the medical profession. Patients are guided to her for a process that can be agonizing, long, and painful. I value Dr. Henderson for her unwavering patience, knowledge, support, and understanding. My mom can be a very difficult patient 😉

Chemotherapy is hard on the body. I remember my mother being small, and frail. Her bones ached constantly, and she was just outright tired. She was so strong and determined to fight a good fight! My mom is by far my hero, a warrior, and a fighter. Little by little she lost every bit of hair on her body. Despite all of it, she was still the strong, and the beautiful mother that I have always known. Always positive, with a no lose attitude. After completion of her chemo, one would think that’s enough. Surgery for removal of the cancer, a double mastectomy and chemotherapy…how much more could be left to accomplish?

Reconstructive surgery is the last step in making a person whole that may have scars, one breast or in my moms case the removal of both of her breast. More decisions? My mom met with a reconstructive surgeon to discuss her options. Some women never reconstruct their breast, and that is a viable option.

My mother sought her version of normalcy after a long journey of sickness. She decided to have her breast completely reconstructed versus, the insertion of breast implants. This surgery and process was extremely hard on her. Reconstructive surgery is no joke! My mom actually had to stay in the hospital a few nights. She was asleep most of the time, but when she was awake, I could tell that she was experiencing some level of pain. Her recovery from her reconstructive surgery was tough, but she handled every step like the warrior she has always been.

My mother’s strength throughout this journey is admirable. I was extremely uneducated about cancer, and the overall process. The journey is different for many. But indeed a journey. Cancer doesn’t discriminate, detection and prevention is key.

Ladies, perform your monthly breast exams. My mother doing her do diligence saved her life!

I still remember where and what I was doing in this day! We were working at the main gate at Randolph AFB (I was in the Air Force at the time) and security was heightened to a level I have never seen. My heart was broken when I heard what happened. May the brave live on in our hearts forever!

It was an extreme honor to visit the memorial site with my family. Absolutely breath taking!

I will never forget this day in which so many lives were lost and sacrificed!

Adult Acne

Hello Everyone!

So, I am well into my fourth month of treatment. My acne is virtually non-existent. For the first time in my life, my face is acne free!!! Accutane gives you kind of a false positive, as it gives everyone a matte faced finish. My doctor informed me that she can spot an Accutane user right away. I will admit that my skin has a glow of some sort. Once I have washed off my make-up, I am usually able to see all of the damage my acne has left behind 🙁

I am still experiencing a ton of dryness. My skin has developed a dry rash on my arms. My eyes are really dry, but manageable. The smallest scratch will often turn into a scab, and scabs lead to scars. It’s extremely important to keep your skin hydrated. Lotions don’t work on your skin with Accutane. Creme’s are better, more expensive but, better.

During my last visit, I was seen by another doctor. Not my regular Derm. Really nice human in general. He felt as though I needed to be on Retin-A in addition to Accutane. He stated that I still had a large amount of white, and blackheads that the Retin-A would assist in eliminating. Retin-A is topical Vitamin A. Topical Retin-A has been used for years to treat acne, as well as to fade dark spots and prevent wrinkles.

The Retin-A has caused some dryness, but nothing that I can’t tolerate. I have noticed that my acne scaring is actually better. I didn’t have wrinkles to begin with, so I will have to report on that at a later time.

Acne is such a common occurring problem. It’s an extremely annoying problem. If you are at a point of frustration, consult a Dermatologist. Don’t waste money on products that don’t work.  Save your money, and speak to healthcare provider about the options available for acne. I have been on a ton of OTC and prescribed acne medications, feel free to ask me about those as well!

Until next time,

Apple Watch Fitness Review

Apple Watch Fitness Review

I hope everyone is having a fantastic Tuesday!

I have to admit I am loving all of the additional features of my Apple Watch! If you are a gadget person you will love all of the additional features the Apple Watch offer. So my Apple Watch and I are finally on the same page. I have finally figured out that I need to consistently move during workouts to meet the guidelines categorized as actual “exercise”. Stoping and starting slows down meeting the exercise goal. In many different workout scenario’s we often speed up, and slow down to a level that is comfortable to our body. I catch myself slowing down all the time. My Apple Watch has helped to keep me focused! There have been many instances in which I didn’t receive minute for minute activity points. My output was slower at different times during my workout. My heart rate didn’t register at a rate sufficient enough to account for exercise. When this happened I became extremely aware of my efforts while exercising. I want every amount of exercise that I do to COUNT!

Lately, I have met my daily move goals well into 1200 calories per day burned. I am constantly on the move. I think it is fair to say that I am  more than happy with my purchase. Our bodies are unique. It’s impossible for any device to give a 100% accurate account of the actual amount of calories we burn. The Apple Watch is effective in giving  a very close estimate. If I burn 400 calories for the day, (not as active) I know that my caloric intake should be between 1400-1600 calories for that day.

The Apple Watch is a good tool to use if you are stuck, at a plateau, or just all over the place and need guidance. Fitness seems to be the first thing people drop when it comes to finances. But if our bodies aren’t healthy physically, how can we do much of anything else? Invest in yourself! That is the best gift that you can ever give to YOURSELF!
